What can I expect from a career in Financial Services? An obvious first question from anyone contemplating a career in financial services, but as far as mortgage broking is concerned not a question with an easy answer.   Essentially unlike a lot of occupations a career as a mortgage broker is exactly what you make of it.

By this I  mean there are brokers who work  part time to fit in with their family commitments or in some cases to fit in with their golf.  Some brokers have a successful business working alone, from home with a select client bank and on average earn around £30,000 pa, although I do know someone in Yorkshire who works from home and has an income of some £80,000 pa.  At the  same time if you are ambitious, clever and work really hard it is possible to build up a firm with turnover in the millions.  It all depends on what you want and how much effort you are willing or able to put in to get it.

It’s certainly not possible for everyone to be a successful mortgage broker, but if you’re honest, computer literate, can work with figures, get on well with people and don’t mind working hard to get your business off the ground then there’s a good chance you can make a go of it..
